Hello all and welcome to my continuing Daily Blog series from me TFG1Mike. This is TFG1MIKE 365!! And it The idea here is for me to write something, anything, once a day for 365 days. From January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024. It’s Day 107 features a discussion on The GCRN’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coverage in the last 15 years of the network!
Let’s go back shall we… To 2012 when we had The GCRN’s TMNT Week! This was an awesome time, and we all had a lot of fun! We have done many TMNT podcasts and blogs over the years. However back in January of 2014, Joe Reed and I started podcasting all about the IDW Publishing TMNT Comics! You can get all those podcasts right HERE! What a Turtle Trek that has been.
In 11 years of The Pull Bag, we have done 64 podcasts dedicated to IDW Publishing’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Comics! Joe Reed and I have such a blast talking about these comics. The story that IDW has put forth IS TMNT to me. Yes there’s the original 1987 cartoon, the 2003, 2012, and other animated versions…. I love most of those, but these comics just put TMNT on another level for me.
Over 100 issues, and IDW always delivers the BEST TMNT PIZZA PARTY EVER! There are funny moments, sad moments, this series is an emotional overload! That’s not a bad thing at all as far as it being an emotional overload! We’ve gotten stories in the IDW series’ that we would have never gotten in any other media! They have told so many stories in the comics, from the main arc, to mini, and macro series…. IDW has re defined TMNT!
WE EVEN GOT QUOTED on the cover of Issue 55!!
TMNT has always been in my blood, ever since I was 7 years old in 1987, and saw the cartoon for the first time. I even remember having the old Burger King VHS tapes!!!
Reddit is the source of the above image!
I remember watching those six VHS tapes over and over again! I also do remember catching the show on TV, but I don’t remember how much of it I saw when it aired!
As you can see from the images above and below, I have the complete series DVD set of the 1987 cartoon!!! I finally grabbed this in November of 2021!!! I only really remember the first five episodes of this series, because from 1987 through 1996 when the show had it’s run, I was going through a lot of life changes. Now that I have the DVD set though, it’s like all those articles you see on websites these days…. You know the ones: “PERSON WATCHES “THIS” FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER! Back in 2021 when I got the set, I did try to watch a lot of it over that holiday season, I think I only got to Disc 5 or 6 at the time. Again 2021, there was a lot goin’ on and I just didn’t have the time to do a marathon watch.
So that’s something I plan on doing one of these days. I most likely will not wait until 2027 which would be the 40th anniversary of the cartoon to watch and podcast about this classic series! When I was watching the show back in 2021, I did notice several times where there were different voice actors for various characters. The one I remember off the top of my head was when Dorian Harewood sat in for James Avery as The Shredder. That’s just one example, and I’m not complaining, just pointing out that I noticed it.
I love the disc art, and the packaging that this set came in, although as you can see above, I think this was the WORST way to ever package DVDs! Literally it was just the discs in there, they weren’t in any kind of protective sleeves or anything!
You can check out the 10 episodes the CINEMA GEEKS did on the TMNT Films right HERE!
I’m thinking of doing a TFG1Mike Top 10 Franchises write up, where I list the Top 10 franchises that mean the most to me. Right now Transformers and TMNT are in the number one and two spots.
So there ya have it. COWABUNGA DUDES AND DUDETTES!!!! TURTLE POWER!!!
Join me tomorrow April 17, 2024 as I’ll be writing about something!
