For over 16 years, GeekCast Radio Network has been creating podcasts for passionate fans of animation, comics, movies, TV, and all things geek culture. With 4,000+ episodes across nearly 40 shows, we’ve interviewed incredible creators, voice actors, writers, and fellow podcasters — building a network driven by authentic conversations and shared fandom.
Over that time, we’ve seen plenty of new tools come and go. One recurring trend we just can’t get behind?
Podcast guesting platforms — subscription services designed to “match” podcasters with potential guests.
On paper, they sound great. And to be fair, for some podcasters — especially those looking for a quick way to fill a guest slot — these services might be a perfect fit.
But for us?
They rarely deliver value — and often create more headaches than they solve.
Here’s why they just don’t land for us and why we continue to take a more personal, direct approach.
Most guesting platforms are packed with entrepreneurs, coaches, and self-promoters looking for exposure.
That’s perfectly fine — but it’s a mismatch for the kind of content we create.
At GeekCast Radio Network, our shows focus on:
Geek culture and fandoms
Comics, animation, and pop culture
Interviews with artists, creators, and voice actors
Deep-dive discussions with fellow podcasters and fans
The challenge?
These services almost never feature the type of guests our audience actually wants to hear.
Instead of discovering the next amazing voice actor or comic book writer, we’re stuck scrolling through pages of “life coaches” and marketers who have nothing to do with our world. It’s like using a dating app when you’re only interested in one very specific type of relationship — lots of swipes, very few matches.
Here’s a truth we’ve learned over 16 years of podcasting:
The best guests come from direct outreach.
Nearly every memorable guest we’ve booked — from comic creators to legendary voice actors — came from simply reaching out personally. No database. No middleman. Just genuine connection.
When we want to feature someone, we:
Reach out directly via email or social media
Build a relationship rooted in shared passions
Create excitement for the episode before we even record
This leads to better conversations because there’s already mutual respect and understanding. It feels natural — and our listeners can tell.
“Some of our most iconic interviews came from nothing more than a thoughtful message and a shared love of the material.”
Some guesting services cross into troubling territory by behaving like data brokers.
They scrape or purchase podcasters’ contact information — emails, phone numbers, personal emails, work contacts, addresses, show details — and sell that data to PR firms, agencies, or anyone willing to pay.
The result? A never-ending stream of cold pitches from strangers trying to sell you on their “must-have guest.”
It’s not just annoying — it’s invasive.
There’s a better, simpler way:
Go to the podcast’s website
Find the contact form or email
Send a personalized message explaining why you’d be a great fit
Most podcasters (including us) will happily respond to a genuine, thoughtful pitch.
No database required. No privacy violation needed.
These services almost always run on recurring subscriptions — which means you keep paying whether you use them or not.
For podcasters who run multiple shows, like we do at GCRN, those costs add up quickly. Before you know it, you’ve dropped hundreds of dollars for maybe one or two decent guests — and that’s if you’re lucky.
Meanwhile, direct outreach is free.
The ROI just isn’t there.
Podcasting was built on community and conversation, not automation and cold transactions. Adding layers of algorithms and gatekeepers only complicates something that should remain simple.
Here’s how we keep it human at GeekCast Radio Network:
Define the type of guests that fit our shows and audience
Build authentic relationships in our niche
Reach out directly and respectfully when we want someone to join us
No unnecessary platforms.
No data privacy headaches.
No wasted money on subscriptions.
Just real people having real conversations — the way podcasting was meant to be.
We understand why some podcasters might find value in guesting services, especially if they’re brand new or just need a fast way to line up interviews. There’s nothing wrong with that approach if it works for them.
But for us, these platforms have consistently been more noise than signal.
If you truly want to connect with a podcaster or creator:
Visit their website
Learn about their show and audience
Send a genuine, personalized message
At GeekCast Radio Network, we’ll always choose direct, human connection over an algorithm-driven pitch.
Because at the end of the day, podcasting should feel personal — not transactional.
