Bumblebee and Me: Life as a G1 Transformer
By: Dan Gilvezan
I found out about this through a post that Randall Ng had made on Facebook. Then I saw Dan Gilvezan himself post about the audiobook edition through audible.com. I went to audible signed up for their free trial and got this. Here’s where you can get it.
The book is read by Dan himself, and it is a very awesome listen through. As the title suggests he tells the story of what it was like to be involved with The Transformers. There are 10 chapters in all and the audiobook runs just over an hour and twenty minutes. Not only does Mr. Gilvezan give us his thoughts and insights on how to get into the business, he tells us how he goes about creating a character. Then there are the stories of Wally Burr voice sessions, Peter Cullen, Frank Welker, Michael Bell, Scatman Crothers, Corey Burton, Sue Blu, and more are mentioned. Dan also tells stories of each person. Like the time that Frank Welker pranked the sound engineer with his feedback noise, or the time when after a 12 hour voice session Peter Cullen crawled out of the studio.
Hearing Dan talk about what a great time it was back then, and how the brand of Transformers has changed in the last thirty years is very insightful. There are times during listening to this I laughed, cried, and overall was amazed at the stories Mr. Gilvezan had to tell. I’m not going to give everything away here, but lets just say any Transformers Generation 1 fan should be listening to this.
I think that with a book like this it is best to have the author’s voice in your head. Sure you can read the ebook or print copy, but hearing the words from Dan Gilvezan himself it pulls you into the world of the 1984 Sunbow Cartoon. Â If you would like to get the ebook or printed version you can get it from Dan Gilvezan’s Website.
