All In Part 5 of 5 “Final Bets”

Final Bets….. well at this point all bets are off, and Batman Beyond 2.0 has been royally flushed down the toilet. I know we have 4 more chapters coming up, but this one as a conclusion to the “All In” arc felt sadly anti-climatic. I thanked and applauded Higgins last week for NOT reverting Ten to a life of Crime. Yet this week he and Alec Siegel seemed to have cast so much doubt in Terry’s mind that they scrapped the entire Terry-Melanie relationship. That was one thing I’d hoped would not happen. It seems to me that based on this final chapter of the second to last arc… the writers are phoning it in big time…… DID Dan Da-Dildo and DC screw them over in some huge way that the puvlic does not know about? That seems to be DC Comics’ M/O when they want to get rid of a series. Or when they want to change a series.

Writing: 

It kills me to say Kyle and Alec are phoning stories in. However this chapter feels so rushed, and it wraps everything up with a bright pink bow… Without even tugging at our heartstrings at all. Because of Terry’s suspions of Melanie that relationship ends. Then we get Terry wanting to go help T in the JL timeline. Which means to me that he’s just making an excuse to go see the “other” version of his dad. The one thing that this issue has going for it is Ten throwing stuff in her mother’s face. That interaction was great. Inque seems like an after thought….. She calls Melanie out at the beginning of the book… there’s a fight, and then nothing. Sure she is captured by a NEW freeze batarang, but her story just ends there. I’d have loved it if Higgins tied back into Inque’s daughter ya know something to hive us more with her. Somet Then there is Davis Dusk. Who has become Rewire again after breaking into Ghoul’s place. His plan….. to go to the JL Timeline kidnap his Dad the former mayor from our timeline….. This has all kinds of implactions that could come of it. Who knows if Dusk is even the mayor over there. I just wanted so much more out of this end to the All In arc.

Thony Silas and the art team are the only glowing things I can say about Chapter 36. Terry and Melanie look great, Barbara and Dick are wonderfully drawn and colored. That’s one thing I’m gonna miss about this series after it ends. Thony’s art is so spot on for this universe. Damn I wish DC hadn’t cancelled the series!!!!!

Final Thoughts:

So Chapter 36 is here. It kills me to say this, but I can’t recommend this one.  I hope Chapter 37  next week raises the bar compared to this one.  You shouldn’t  go get BATMAN BEYOND 2.0 Chapter 36, unless you just want it for Thony Silas’s amazing art. This is the final chapter in the second to last arc! All within the Batman Beyond Universe. You can find it on the DC Comics App or Comixology or wherever you get your digital comics. Batman Beyond 2.0 kinda fell off a cliff this week.
