Batman Beyond 2.0
Bat Beyond 2.0 Chapter 30 is here! This is the beginning of the end for this arc. We see The Phantasm Vs Batman and more! This will be a slightly SPOILER FILLED Review!
Mark of the Phantasm Part 6 of 7 “For Better or Worse”
We are standing on the precipice of yet another nearly completed arc in Batman Beyond 2.0. In Chapter 30 it’s all action. A phyiscal storm I guess you could say, before we get to the emotional storm we’ll get in the finale of this arc in Chapter 31. Now I will say that I do like reading Gotham Spoilers and Weird Science of DC Blog‘s reviews of the Bat Beyond Chapters before I write my reviews. To see if their opinions will align with my own of each chapter. Sometimes they do and don’t. But go check each of them out. They are great write ups of this series.
Writing:
Because this is such an explosive chapter, quite literally….. There isn’t much dialogue in it. I do love what writing we do get, but there really isn’t much to talk about here. We do see that Terry tries to save Jake, because why kind of a Batman would he be if he didn’t right? I think what kinda makes me mad in the writing for this issue is how Higgins and Siegel have Bruce point out where the Anti-Toxin is in Terry’s belt. Wouldn’t Terry know this was there after all he has dealt with the Jokerz before, and I just assume Bruce keeps replenishing the supply. Still kinda urks me that Terry wouldn’t know it was there. However that is a minor nitpick when you look at the grand scheme of this issue. The Jokerz, more specifically Ghoul it seems have recreated the original Joker toxin. That’s a nice yet creepy touch.
Art:
The art…….. it’s all about Hester, Gapstur, and Filardi kill it in this action packed issue! From the Phantasm smoke, to the explosion above, and so much more. There are so many things in their art to draw your eye. Whether that be an emotional look on one of the character’s faces…. Or an action scene. The fight between Joerized Jake and Batman is amazing, and heart wrenching to look at. I do LOVE what this art team does with shadows and how that plays to the style of the story so well. Just look at the image below….. That to me is just amazing, and the way that panel is highlighted in the Comixology’s Guided View…. Makes it look like a playing card. Then again maybe it’s my mind playing tricks on me. Either way loved every minute of Hester and Gapstur on this arc!
Final Thoughts:
So Chapter 30 is here, and boy oh boy did it leave us with a bang! Plus we get teased as to why the fallout happens between Terry and Bruce. I honestly have no clue what to expect from Chapter 31 next week. You should go get BATMAN BEYOND 2.0 Chapter 30. This is the sixth chapter out of seven that are dedicated to this arc. All within the Batman Beyond Universe, and you won’t wanna miss a second of it! You can find it on the DC Comics App or Comixology or wherever you get your digital comics. Batman Beyond 2.0 continues to go beyond all expectations!
