BAD BOYS: 30th ANNIVERSARY
EXPANDED & REMASTERED LIMITED EDITION
(2-CD SET) – Album Review!
Hello all and welcome to a NEW Daily Blog series from me… TFG1Mike! The idea here is for me to write something, anything, once a day for 365 days. From January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026. In my 137th entry of 2026, I’ll be talking about the film score to Bad Boys! This is the 50th Anniversary Expanded and Remastered Edition 2 CD set!
La La Land Records released this in March 3, 2026, and for me this is the third score from a film that I noticed Mark’s music! The fourth score of Mr. Mancina’s I ever heard was Money Train also from 1995. You can read that HERE! However We are here for BAD BOYS!
The disc art here:

And so now with all that outta the way…. let’s get into this, shall we?!
Getting into Mark Mancina’s music for the album… We have 41 total tracks between the 2 discs. Of those 41 tracks, Disc 2 are all bonus tracks. So 27 tracks for the score presentation on Disc 1, and 14 bonus tracks on Disc 2.

I did just finish watching the film, right before I started writing this, it has been a long time since I’ve watched the first film. I’m glad that the score release gave me an excuse to go back and watch the first film. I was taking notes as I watched the film and here are those notes:
For clarification most of my notes are just me writing down quotes from the film.
Martin Lawrence
Will Smith
Tea Leoni
Teresa Randle
Marg helgenberger.
Michael imperioli
Joe Pantoliano
^^ The reason why I wrote the cast down as I saw their names pop on up on the screen was that I had forgotten Marg Helgenberger was in this film. I mainly remember her from CSI: Crime Scene Investigation – CSI: Las Vegas, but that didn’t debut until October 8, 2000!
And then Michael Imperioli before he was Christopher on The Sopranos! Crazy!!!
So here are all the quotes I wrote out!
“Yo you on the mic with Mike
Just do what you do, only faster!
They should just bone and get that shit over with!
Francine that bitch! (This was just a note I wrote after we find out who the traitor was)
I’m calling in a favor, I need a swat team helicopters. We’re calling all cars here baby, only. I don’t know where I need them!
NOW THAT’S HOW YOU SUPPOSED TO DRIVE.
FROM NOW ON THAT’S HOW YOU DRIVE.”
AND NOW THE MUSIC!!!
The music is BAD, and that’s soooooooooo GOOD for BAD BOYS! So let’s get into that shall we?
Track 1: “Funky Logo – Car Jacking”: I I love the opening here, and it opens with the classic beats we have know for over thirty years. Damn that opening tune… Those first twenty seconds is all I need to get me into this soundtrack!! However we then get into the rest of just this track. The low breakdown in the middle… with the drum beats… I can’t even tell what kind of drums they are using, but I know I just love the the ramp up after the low key tune. And then the keyboard comes in, fades out, and gives way for the percussion instruments. Excellent way to start things off!!! This track is over three minutes long, and I only wrote about 2 minutes of it. The way it just takes over as it goes, yet the core theme remains in there is great.
Track 2: “Bad Boys Main Title – The Heist”: This is INTENSE! But then again soooo is the opening scene! I love when the music is the scene stealer in films! There’s a section in here as I’m listening to it, I know exactly what scene of the movie the music goes to, without watching the film. It’s when the truck breaks through the wall. Mannnn I love listening to soundtracks outside the thing they are supposed to be in.
Track 3: “Funky Brothers To PD”: This is a funky thirty eight second track that is just fun… I actually forget where it fits in the film, but I like it. !
Track 6: “Dead Guy”: That’s a DEAD GUY….. why you pullin’ his guts out? I agree with Marcus. I do not do well around gross stuff! But this tune is awesome. I love the low tones and symbols in here!
Track 8: “Killing Max”: This music and scene were just HAUNTING!!!! The way the music starts, I thought I was in a horror film, and then the way it crescendos damn! I love this track, because it made the scene, but again DAMN, listening to it outside the film… For me makes it even more powerful of a feeling.
Track 16: “Julie’s Got A Gun”: Julie played by Tea Leoni is amazing!!! She’s so scared, but a badass at the same time in this scene, and the music reflects that.
Track 25: “Hangar Shootout”: This starts off slow, but builds to a wonderfully destructive tune. It really is an instrument of destruction with this scene, as this signals the beginning of the end of the film. What I love is how the ramp up, and the slow down in the middle of the track meld so well together. Waiiiitttt this track is 9:16????? I guess I never noticed that when listening to this one repeat when I first got the album. Damn when the horns kick in…. holy hell that’s amazing!!! I thought this switched over to the next track, but listening and looking at the timer… I remember they had to get ready for the Cobra Chase…. so the hangar scene went on longer than I remembered. Still love the music though.
Track 26: “Cobra Chase”: THIS IS HOW YOU DRIVE!!!!! Hell Yeah! Waaaaaiiitttt this track is only 1:46…. WWWHHUUUUTTT???? So everything I love about the ending of the film comes in the Hangar Shootout then?? Hmmm…. This track seems to skip like a CD or record scratching back in the day at first, maybe that’s intentional? Ahhh… ok there we go…. Wait, no there it is again…. This is the strangest one minute forty six seconds…. until we get to the 1:05 minute mark. Then I know where we are in the film with the cars trying to get through the barriers in the race at the end. Still an awesome track, but I thought that the Cobra Chase music would be longer.
Track 27: “Fouchet’s Death”: And here we are at the end… not necessarily high action, but the intensity is there, and I absolutely love it. Then we get the slow down and speed up of the moment… Where you think Fouchet is dead, but he’s not, and they have to kill him. I love how Macina’s music has to portray all of that.
DISC 2 – THE BONUS TRACKS:
There are 14 bonus tracks on disc 2, I’m not going to go in depth on all of them. Most are demos of tracks that are on disc 1. There are two alternate versions of “The Bous Find Max” that are each very interesting. The first alternate version of that track feels like it adds more fire to the music in my ears. The second alternate version adds a bit more bravado in the beginning of the track. The WHOLE TRACK IS DEEPER. That’s what I hear, compared to the track we got on the soundtrack itself.

Final Thoughts:
Bad Boys is a film that sits in the zeitgeist of films that I think is a 1990s breakout for action films. Michael Bay proved himself with this film, and it has everything that action films since then have kinda looked at and said hmmm…. yeah. It’s a film with a cop drama plot, but the way the story is told… it pulls you in, and keeps your attention for 2 hours or so. The music is also what does that, because the music drives the scenes as you go along. As I mentioned above with the main title track – heist. As I’m listening to that, I can picture in my mind the scene of the heist. Maybe I’m just weird like that, but again my main point stands, the music is the star along with the rest of the pieces that make up this amazing action film!
If you are a film score fan you’ll wanna add this to your collection any way you can! You can get the physical CD at La-La Land Records right HERE!
You can go back to March 8, 2013 and listen to MWIRE Ep 95 with me TFG1Mike and The Comic Concierge as we discuss the Bad Boys “franchise” as there were only two films at the time! You can listen to that right HERE!
We have brought back The GCRN Universal Ratings System in a BRAND NEW BRANDING!!! It’s The GCRN GEEK METER! And my rating for this CD soundtrack release is:

Join me next time when I’ll be writing about something! <— I’ve stopped putting tomorrow or the dates here, because I dunno if I’m gonna write the next day or not. I’ve WANTED to write more this year but, things just are a bit too overwhelming! However the year ain’t over yet… And I’m tryin’ mah best!
