I’d seen the TV spots for this one, but I don’t ever remember seeing the actual trailer for it. Usually when I see ads for films like this I turn my brain off. however for some strange reason this film intrigued me. I’d seen an episode of MTV’s True Life a number of years ago on Friends with Benefits. The difference between that and this film is that the tv episode focussed on multiple friends with benefits. Whereas this film focusses on Dylan and Jamie only.
All of the performances in this are very well done, and the humor is awesome. Basic premise is two people meet, become, friends, neither want the hassle of a relationship or emotions, and they eventually fall in love. It’s a very unique take on a love story. I’ll admit I am so not a fan of N’Sync, but Justin Timberlake is a very good actor. The side plots with Jamie’s mom and Dylan’s family are very well thought out. The fact that these two people have deeper things going on in their lives, but they’d rather keep them from each other as to not complicate things.
Overall I would recommend this as a watch it to see it. However I’m not sure it’s a film I can watch more than once. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed seeing it. However it’s one of those movies that you just watch once. So go check out Friends with Benefits if you want.
