Happy 40TH Anniversary BACK TO THE FUTURE!!!
Hello all and welcome back to TFG1Mike 365! When I started this in January of 2019, the idea was for me to write something, anything, once a day for 365 days. You can find all the blogs over at FROM THE DESK OF TFG1Mike! Today is a write up of the 40th anniversary of BACK TO THE FUTURE! GREAT SCOTT, THIS IS HEAVY!!!
I was 5 years old 40 years ago in 1985!!! I don’t even remember seeing the first Back To The Future until 1988, 89, or 1990! It had to be 1989, before the second film was released in theaters! I know because I do now remember my mom renting it on VHS by then, so we could go to theaters to see Back To The Future II! I honestly don’t remember if I saw the third film in theaters, but I remember watching it along side TMNT III in 1994 or 1995 on VHS… my childhood timeline is weird, but I did watch all the geeky stuff that mattered to me!
July 11, 2009 here on The GeekCast Radio Network we launched MOVIE WEEK IN REVIEW (MWIRE!) With Episode 001: Back To The Future! Myself, Steve Megatron, and Steve Saylor discussed the entire trilogy in that episode! It amazes me all these years later… looking through the entire GCRN catalog of podcasts, and podcast episodes… we have never done separate episodes for each film. Well that will change later this year over on Studio 2009!
Back To The Future was such lightning in a bottle, it’s a film that didn’t need sequels, but it’s also a film that set it up well to have future stories. BTTF for me is a film that inspires, it makes you want to be creative, it makes you want to learn…. and it also makes you want to go on an adventure.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been 40 years to the day, but it really has been. And we even have had comic books with IDW Publishing that we have covered inside The Pull Bag. I’m writing this as I’m half asleep, almost as July 3rd is over, so I’ll say this, I’ll have more in depth thoughts on the three films, and the anniversary, when David Draper and I do the Studio 2009 episodes later this year. In the meantime go back to the 30th anniversary with Doc Brown in 2015!
Join me tomorrow July 4, 2025 as I’ll be writing about something!!!
