TFG1MIKE 365 – 2019 Day 49
Playing Video Games One-Handed!
Hello all and welcome to a NEW Daily Blog series from me… TFG1Mike! The idea here is for me to write something, anything, once a day for 365 days. From January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019. In my 49th entry, I’ll be talking about how I play video games one handed!
I’ve said it plenty of time in the past 11 years of my podcasting career, I was born with a mild case of Cerebral Palsy. It affects the right side of my body, from my brain to my pinky toe! As a child this meant that I had to learn everything with just my left hand, and that I was most definitely a left handed person. As you can see in the above image, how I manipulate the controller so I’m balancing it on my leg, then with my hand I use just my thumb, index, and middle finger to be able to use the controller. Nintendo Classic Controllers, SNES, Sega Genesis, and Playstation 1-2, are my favorite controllers. Anything bigger than that, and I can’t play the system. I remember when the X-Box first came out, I took one look at the controller, and I was like… no, nope, nada, nuh uh! I do know Microsoft has come a long way since the OG X-Box. They have now released an Adaptive Controller for the X-Box.
Growing up my first video game system, besides my Mom’s Atari 2600, was the Sega Master System. My favorite cousins had the NES. I’d always be over at their house playing Super Mario, Duck Hunt, Batman, Excite Bike, or the TMNT game!
So I’ve stuck with what I’m good at. I also have been able to manipulate and master PC gaming one handed. I’m not gonna win any tournaments, but hey… I can play GTA IV with the bets of them. Below is the video I shot a few years ago demonstrating how I play PC games. I love both console and PC games, my heart is big enough for both platforms. With PC gaming I love the Need For Speed franchise, GTA, Saint’s Row, and a few others.
For consoles, well I’d be here all day telling you the games I love to play. Off the top of my head the early Super Mario Bros games, Zelda: A Link to the Past, Metal Gear Solid, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, and so many more. The funny thing is I prefer my racing games to be PC based. I could never get the hang of those on consoles. Being able to play most video games one-handed is just another thing that makes me unique, compared to everyone else in the world.
Are you an old skool or current gen gamer? What is it about playing video games that you love? If you are reading this, and you’re not a gamer, have you ever wanted to try playing video games? Let me know in the comments below!
Join me tomorrow morning February 19, 2019 as I’ll be writing about the 20th Anniversary of the film Office Space.
